How to Compare WordPress Hosting Renewal Pricing

Intro discounts look attractive, but renewal pricing usually decides your long-term hosting cost.

Most hosting pages lead with a promotional rate, but your second invoice is usually the bigger cost driver.

Start with total billing cost, not monthly numbers

A plan advertised as $2.99/mo often requires a multi-year commitment and tax exclusions. Compare providers using the total bill amount for the same term.

Separate intro and renewal prices in your notes

Track these values side by side:

  • Intro total for your chosen billing term
  • Renewal total for that same term
  • Domain and add-on fees

This helps you avoid choosing a plan that is cheap only during the first contract.

Check renewal triggers before checkout

Some hosts renew automatically for the original contract length. Confirm renewal term and cancellation window in advance so you are not surprised on the invoice date.

The lowest promotional price is not always the lowest annual cost.

Keep migration effort in mind

If you expect to move hosts after year one, include migration time and potential plugin or email transfer costs in your decision.
