How to Cancel Bluehost and Get a Refund (30-Day Rules Explained)
How to cancel a Bluehost hosting plan, what the 30-day money-back guarantee covers and excludes, and how to stop auto-renewal so you are not billed again.
- bluehost
- cancellation
Bluehost gives you two ways to cancel: turn off auto-renewal so the plan ends at expiry, or contact support to cancel now. A refund is only possible within 30 days of a new purchase, or within the prebill window before a renewal.
Back up first
Cancelling suspends your website and email and deletes the account's files. Bluehost cannot recover data once it is erased, so download your site files and database before you start.
Option 1: Cancel and request a refund (within 30 days)
Bluehost's money-back guarantee covers shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting fees for new signups who cancel within 30 days of purchase.
- Contact Bluehost by chat (24/7, from the CHAT bubble on bluehost.com) or phone (US 888-401-4678, international +1 801-765-9400, 7 am to midnight Eastern).
- Have your support token ready and make sure the email address in your Profile is current.
- Ask to cancel the hosting plan under the 30-day money-back guarantee.
Support reviews the account and cancels the product. Card refunds usually appear within 5 to 7 business days.
What the guarantee does not cover
- Bluehost Cloud hosting
- Plans on a monthly term
- Domain registration fees
- AI products and setup fees
- Add-ons such as SSL certificates, SiteLock, Domain Privacy, website transfers, SEO packages, and design services
If your plan came with a free domain, Bluehost deducts a fee for the domain from the refund. You keep ownership of the domain.
Option 2: Turn off auto-renewal (after 30 days)
Bluehost renewals are not refundable after the fact, so the safest way to leave is to stop the next charge:
- Log in to the Bluehost portal and open the Renewal Center.
- Turn off auto-renew for the hosting plan.
The plan stays active until its expiry date, then ends. Renewals are refundable only within the 15-day prebill window before they are charged.
Do not forget the domain
Domains renew automatically and separately from hosting, 15 days before their renewal date. If you do not want to keep the domain, turn off its auto-renew in the Renewal Center too. If you do want to keep it, consider transferring it to another registrar.
Moving to another host?
Copy your site to the new host before you cancel, and switch DNS first. If renewal cost is why you are leaving, compare five-year costs on the Bluehost renewal price page, or see Bluehost against Hostinger, SiteGround, and InMotion Hosting.
