How to cancel a HostGator hosting plan inside the 30-day money-back window, what is excluded, how the free-domain deduction works, and how long the refund takes.

- cancellation
HostGator handles cancellations and refunds through its support team. If you contact them within 30 days of buying your first package, you can get your hosting fees back, minus a few exclusions.
Back up first
When HostGator terminates an account, its websites and data are deleted. Download your files and databases before you contact support.
Who qualifies for the 30-day refund
- Covered: Shared, WordPress, VPS, and dedicated hosting.
- Timing: Cancel within 30 days of purchase, on a billing account less than 30 days old.
- First package only: The guarantee applies to the first package you bought.
Not covered
- Domain registration fees
- Services on a monthly term
- Administrative, installation, and setup fees
- Add-on services such as SiteLock
- Packages paid by check, money order, or bank wire transfer
- Orders of $0.01
If your plan included a free domain and you cancel within a year, HostGator deducts the standard domain fee plus tax from the refund. You keep the domain.
How to cancel and get the refund
- Go to HostGator's contact page and reach support by phone or chat within the 30-day window.
- Ask to cancel the hosting plan and request the 30-day money-back refund.
- Wait for the cancellation to be completed. HostGator issues the refund only after that.
Refunds go back to the original payment method and can take up to two weeks to appear. If you paid with PayPal, also cancel the PayPal subscription or billing agreement so you are not charged again.
After 30 days
HostGator does not refund cancellations made more than 30 days after purchase. You can still cancel through support so the plan does not renew; plan ahead before your renewal date.
Moving to another host?
Copy your site and switch DNS before you cancel. If price is the reason, compare five-year costs on the HostGator renewal price page, or see HostGator against Bluehost and Hostinger.
