How to Migrate a WordPress Site to InterServer (Free Migration Rules)
When InterServer's free migration applies (matching cPanel or DirectAdmin panels only), how to request it by support ticket, and how to test before switching DNS.
- interserver
- migration
InterServer migrates web hosting accounts for free, but only between matching control panels. Check that first, because it decides which InterServer plan you should buy.
Does your site qualify?
The free service covers two workflows on web hosting plans:
- DirectAdmin to DirectAdmin: your current host uses DirectAdmin and you move to InterServer's DirectAdmin web hosting (the Standard plan).
- cPanel to cPanel: your current host uses cPanel and you move to InterServer's cPanel web hosting.
Not covered: cross-panel moves (for example cPanel to DirectAdmin), Plesk/ASP.NET and Webuzo migrations, website-builder conversions, and VPS or dedicated-server migrations. Those are yours to do yourself, for example by moving WordPress files and the database manually.
Step 1: Buy the matching plan
Pick a destination that matches your current panel before you order. If you are buying the Standard plan, see how to sign up for InterServer.
Step 2: Open a support ticket
In InterServer's customer portal, open a ticket that lists:
- The source control panel
- The domains to move
- The destination InterServer service
- What email (mailboxes, messages, settings) should be included
Ask for the approved secure method to send your login details or backup. Tell support about any existing data on the destination account before anything is restored.
Step 3: Let InterServer run the transfer
The team performs the agreed transfer and coordinates timing through your ticket. General support runs 24/7, but the migration team does not, and there is no fixed completion deadline.
Step 4: Test, then switch DNS
Preview and test the site on InterServer before changing DNS. A write freeze or final sync may be needed, and InterServer does not promise zero downtime. Moving hosting does not require moving your domain registration, but keep any mail and other DNS records you rely on.
Keep the old hosting available until you have verified the site and email and approved the DNS cutover.
