WPX's migration team moves WordPress sites for free, with no limit on the number or size of sites. You fill out a migration form for each site, WPX copies it (usually within 24 hours), and you point your domain to WPX when it is done.

Before you request a migration

  • Active plan: You need an active WPX hosting plan with a free website slot and enough disk space.
  • One form per site: Submit a separate request for each website.
  • Freeze changes: Do not edit the site during the migration. Changes made then may not carry over, and a re-migration costs $98 (excl. VAT).
  • Email: Mailboxes from your old host are included. If you use Google Workspace, Zoho, or another third-party email provider, say so in the request and include the correct records.
  • 2FA hosts: If your current host uses two-factor authentication (WPX names Cloudways, GoDaddy, SiteGround, and WP Engine), add [email protected] to that account and give it access.

No plan yet? See how to sign up for WPX.

Step 1: Open the migration form

Log in to your WPX account and click Migrate Site in the navigation bar. It is visible from every menu.

Step 2: Choose the migration type

  • Free Site Migration: Completed within 24 hours.
  • Express Site Migration: Skips the queue for $100 (excl. VAT).
  • Domain Name Change Migration: For moving to a new domain or URL, $98 (excl. VAT). If WPX cannot complete it because of hard-coded URLs, you get a full refund.

Click Next.

Step 3: Choose how WPX gets your site

  • Using a Plugin: For when you only have WordPress admin access. WPX needs your WordPress admin login.
  • With a Full Backup: Paste a download link (Dropbox, WeTransfer, or similar) to a backup of your files and database.
  • From Another Host: Give WPX your control panel or cPanel login, SFTP/FTP plus phpMyAdmin details, or SSH access.

Submit the form. The request becomes a ticket, and the migration team tells you when it starts and finishes. Every incoming site is scanned for malware, and any found is cleaned free, which can stretch the migration to 24 to 72 hours.

Step 4: Point your domain to WPX

After the migration, update your nameservers at your domain registrar, and your MX records if you use email. DNS can take 24 to 48 hours to update. Avoid changes to the site until it has.

Special cases

  • Multisite: An existing Multisite network moves for free. Converting a single site into a Multisite during migration is not offered.
  • Re-migrations: Moving the same site again within 365 days, or redoing it because of changes on your side, costs $98 (excl. VAT).
